Welcome to the Nokado School of Self Defense Home Page. The Nokado Dojo was opened on April 2nd, 1979. We have been open in the same location for 35 years.
The head instructor of the Nokado Schools of Self Defense is John Olshlager, Soke (Soke means head of the system.) He has been training in the Martial Arts of Jiu Jitsu for 44 years, and holds the rank of eighth degree black belt. Soke "O", as the students call him. has trained all over the world with some of the most prestigious martial artists in the style of Jiu Jitsu.
Our philosophy is to walk away from a fight whenever possible. If forced into a confrontation, a student has the option of defending themselves one of three ways; the hard style of block, punch and kick, the middle style of intercepting the attack and placing the opponent in a wristlock or submission hold, or the soft style of avoiding the confrontation either verbally or physically. The training at the Nokado Schools of Self Defense focuses on developing the following; self-esteem, discipline, the ability to focus, fitness, and self defense.
As a traditional dojo (school), The Nokado Schools of Self Defense follow all of the traditional practices of formal Jiu Jitsu schools. Respect at the Nokado Schools of Self Defense is earned, not given. We invite you to take a FREE trial class at the dojo and experience first-hand the benefits of training.
